Welcome from Northwest MO. If you are completely new to soap making, you might want to start off with a melt & pour base from Wholesale Supplies Plus or Brambleberry.com That way you can have the fun of experimenting with colors, scents and design without the lye. Many people start out that way and move on to cp soap later. The Soap Queen blog has a lot of good ideas, recipes and and videos on YouTube.

There are tons of information here on the internet. First of all lots of great videos on you tube. There is teach soap.com and soap queen by bramble berry(great supply house) I highly recommend getting the "The soap makers companion" book as well. There are tons of great blogs too on soap making Good luck remember this takes a bit of knowledge before you get started so just be patient and happy soap making.

I highly recommend the Soaping 101 & Soapqueen videos that Ruby61 linked to.
I also highly recommend this book: The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso. It discusses the different types of soaping & is very easy to understand. You can check your local library & they may have it, or they may be able to get it for you.

Millers soap website has some great information and soap recipes for beginners. Other online resources are Magestic Mountain Sage and soapcalc.net. Both of these sites have soap calculators you can run your recipes through. I think I learned more at these 3 sites than anywhere else.

Welcome to the forum! I myself started with melt and pour and moved quickly on to CP. I would suggest trying out the MP to see how you like it, but I do not suggest buying a 25 lb block to start with... you might get into CP and then have a bunch of MP soap sitting around gathering dust (ask me how I would know this...)

Hello all I am in my late sixties and retired. Like many women my age the soaps on the commercial market are just so harsh and we want gentler products. I decided to try my hand at making bath products and see how it goes. If nothing else it will be a wonderful hobby and not as expensive as some!

Soapmaking isn't as expensive as some hobbies but it can get a little pricey. Fortunately, it doesn't take a lot of money to get started. :grin:
