Hi ,
I don't usually ask for recipes , but I want to try an experiment and none of my recipes are really white. If you don't want to share I totally understand .

Kitn try doing one that is OO - 50%, CO - 25% & Tallow - 25% - beautiful soap - very, very white and really moisturizing.....

Hi Lindy , I use the costco OO it does have a green tinge , I am thinking this is one reason my soap isn't white , normally I don't care ..

Have you tried ungelled? When I use mine from costco as a castille, it is sort of a very light yellow/cream, not green. I don't gel.

kitn;

i started getting grade A olive oil from oils by nature and my soaps are much lighter in color....i understand the grade A is better for soap making though not as good for eating. the olive oil is a pale golden color, compared with the very green color my extra virgin oo from walmart was. i get a gallon (8 lbs) for around $33.00 and that includes shipping. i think it ends up being about the same as if i bought a gallon of oo from walmart...maybe a bit more.

I've changed to an OO from Voyageur which is also a little more green - you could try a soap that is just tallow and coconut (90/10) or 100% tallow (hard and moiturizing - light on fluffy lather but high in stable lather).

Thank you SimplyE a splendid idea , doh , I should be packing not worrying about a soap recipe .Another sign of an addict , me thinks.

Thank you too rubato, I live in Canada so shipping is very high for me here in the middle of nowhere. If I don't buy the costco brand it costs $33.00 for 3 measly litres of olive oil here.

Kitn what about checking with a local store to see if they would bring in EVOO in bulk for you (15 litre pails)? I was doing this but I found that for me it was cheaper to order from Voyaguer.

oh i had forgotten that....i'm wishing i lived in canada .....it must be so cool and nice there.....it's starting to heat up here in texas. i visited toronto a few times and loved it. it must be lovely where you are if it is very remote.....

Thank you all so much . I truly appreciate the responses I got .I now have a white soap recipe.
Lindy , awesome idea , I will check around and a great soap idea.

Coconut would be nice and white for sure, but my skin can't handle much of it. Darn dry old lady skin.

Rubato , you wouldn't want to live where I live, we don't really have spring yet , it isn't really remote , just flat prairie .I am the only soap maker here , so nowhere in town stocks any of the vital soap making oils.Parts of Canada are beautiful .I was born in British Columbia and my brother lives in prince Edward Island. I could live very happily ever after in either province.

Kitn - I have made an 80% CO 20% Shea Butter with 20% superfat; I also made an 80% CO 20% Cocoa Butter with 20% superfat.....

Both soaps were quite white - the one with Shea very white although just a touch drying on my 48 yo skin. The Cocoa Butter one was a more creamy white and my skin just loves it!!! Beautiful thick creamy lather and my skin is so soft after washing. Not a perfect white though.

Kitn - do you have Sam's Clubs there? I pay $17 for a big ole huge jug of a light colored OO there.

Kitn, which OO are you using from costco? Mine carries both EVOO and Pure OO. I buy the Pure OO, which looks more golden in the jug, rather than the green tinge of EVOO. My soaps are really very light when I use pure OO. I use GM, which is why I can never get my soaps totally white. I also do not gel, which keeps the color lighter and more true, IMO.

LJA $17.00 ,I wish , that would be an 8 oz bottle here.

The only 1 that I find at our Costco is just called pure olive oil , and it really has a green cast to it.It is in a 5 litre jug.
