I think I'm going to make a batch tomorrow. I keep my soaps all natural, but I think it would be weird to have a floral or citrus accent with beer, right? I think beer stinks myself The smell "cooks out" right? Is it best to leave it unscented?

I've only made it once, and I scented it with patchouli, orange, and a tiny bit of vetiver. I think just about anything would be okay with the beer except maybe florals would seem strange on paper... lavender beer?

You could make a beer soap with lime... that's a thing, right, like Bud Light and lime? I've heard that unscented, it doesn't smell much like beer. One soapmaker in a video I watched said it smelled like black olives...

EDIT: Mmm vanilla and beer sounds nice!

So far I've left mine unscented. There is a slight yeast scent but it doesn't really smell like beer. I don't care for beer either but I think I might try a beer FO some time.
If you do want to scent it, just use a bit stronger FO, it should cover any lingering yeasty smell. Chocolate or vanilla is a good choice.

Spice (cinnamon-y) or spicy (even lavender) scents. Pine-fir-spruce and woodsy scents. Mint.

Light, sweet florals ... probably not so much.

I have only made beer soap with craft beers. I read the brewery's website, or reviews of the beer, to find out the flavor profile, then tried to match that with fragrances. So I have made a chocolate stout, a vanilla porter, an orange-almond dark beer soap, and a saison soap with tropical fruit FOs.

I think using a eo with craft beer is a great idea! For my test batch I'm just using a bud light.. lol I'm not a beer drinker and the SO isn't into "fancy craft beers" so I'll just have to rob a friend of one next time I'm out lol I don't guess there is a real fragrance for bud light

lsg, whose beer FO do you use, and how do you like it? Does it smell just like beer -- or better?? I love the idea of it but not really sure I want shower in beer, lol!

I've used a couple different FOs for my beer soaps. One is Santa's Pipe, which smells like a cherry pipe tobacco. I chose this for the "beer and cigar bar" rhyme, and because it didn't seem like it would fight the natural beer smell. The other was Hot Buttered Rum FO, which gave kind of a butterscotch scent. This at least kept the alcohol theme, but with a butterscotch-like scent, it doesn't smell much like beer anymore. It does smell good though!

I used Crafter's Choice Oatmeal Stout 627. I think it smells like beer. It did darken the soap though. It wasn't offensive at all.
