Disaster or Masterpiece - only time will tell. After 5 batches of making soap, I decided to go crazy. I made coffee soap. I watched numerous coffee soap making videos (as i always do). I ran my recipe through the Soap Calc. Last night I made really super duper strong coffee. Triple strength. I hate coffee. This is why I'm crazy! I measured out the coffee and froze into cubes. Tonight, I added the lye slowly to the frozen coffee cubes. Oh Man! Did it stink!!! I thought for sure the coffee was burning, but it never got above 80 degrees. I will never get that smell out of my nose.

Come to think of it, when I made goats milk soap, I used frozen goats milk and the lye/milk never got above 80 degrees. Is this weird?

Ok, back to my story. I made a combo of peppermint and coffee fragrance oil. From what I read/watched, the scent of the actual coffee would go away. Let's hope so. Will it? or will I have this horrible coffee smell interfere with my blend? I'm totally having second thoughts on beer soap.

I made my first beautiful-to-me top. So, either it will be a complete stinky mess or the best soap I've made. Only 24-hours will tell. :problem:

My husband will help me get the pictures I took off my phone tomorrow and I'll post some pics tomorrow evening.

Sorry for the long post!

I wanna see pics! I haven't made coffee soap yet and was thinking about it. Did the coffee stink because you don't like coffee or was it a strange stinky smell (not what strong coffee should smell like)?

Sounds like you did a great job with it :) I have heard that the coffee smell goes away and if you want to have a coffee smell to your soap you need to use a fragrance oil. It sounds like you did wonderfully with it. I look forward to seeing pics :)

The coffee smell will go away, and for those who asked, even if you love the smell of coffee, coffee+lye is pretty darn nasty. Beer is pretty similar - the lye solution is funky but most of it cures out. A light yeasty hoppy smell remains, not unlike the smell of fresh-baked bread.

More assurance that the burnt coffee smell does go away :) My coffee soap is one of my biggest sellers, so I bet yours will be a winner!
