I’ve been going to Walmart and the dollar store to buy plastic soap making vessels.

However, many cheap plastic containers items don’t have the plastic type recycling information on them anymore!

Is there something I’m missing? I’ve poured over the clear plastic containers, read through the labels, and nothing. It’s obviously a cheap light weight clear plastic but there’s nothing on it to say what type of plastic!

Is there a default plastic type?

If a container is made of the super clear plastic that most pop (soda) bottles are made from, it's most likely PET (polyethylene terephthalate), recycle code 1 (one).

Even though PET storage containers are thick and sturdy, don't ever use them for soap making. PET will become extremely brittle and fragile after just a few days of exposure to lye solution -- brittle enough so a normally sturdy container can easily shatter just from picking it up.
