Another follow up to some of my many others posts.

Some history: I've found some oils at a great price, but they are old (like years!).
I tried to soap and had problems with very very fast trace

I found out that the Pomace Olive Oil was my problem.
I started using an open box of POO which caused me to seize/trace in seconds.

I kept making 8 ounce batches until I found out the problem was the opened case of POO. Now I also have an unopened case of POO.

I Made an 8 ounce test batch with this oil and it did take longer to trace. It got pretty heavy in about 2 minutes (all other variables the same).

Is this a typical HEAVY trace time for POO? I know its supposed to trace faster, but I've never used it before, so I'm trying to figure if this is typical?

I used poo today with some leftover lemon oo, and the acceleration was pretty quick. I wasn’t expecting it to thicken up so quickly because it was mostly oo. Both of the oils were pretty old. Could be a thing.

Do you mean you got pomace to trace with 2 minutes of stick blending? If so, yes, that sounds perfectly normal to me. I generally stick blend for 15-30 seconds, just until emulsion and only a little more as needed for mixing colors or getting a THICK trace for a design. I use 30% pomace.

In your other thread, you mentioned the batch also turned orange. I suspect if it was the pomace, it was somehow contaminated. Your unopened case seems normal.

Yes in 2 minutes, it was a very heavy trace. Thanks for the answer!! The opened case was literally seconds, 2 or 3 twirls with the blender.

I'm thinking the time may go up with a larger batch too, you agree? This was an 8 ounce batch.

And I don't think I got the Orange with the fresh case (just a quick trace).

If the oils are old, there's a possibility they are oxidizing which can cause issues. I would also be concerned with the possibility of them getting DOS depending on their age. I've used pomace and yes, it moves a bit faster but not that fast. I still had time to do swirls. Also, if you are stick blending for 2 minutes that's part of your problem as well. I generally blend about 20 seconds in 10 second spurts.

Soaping with either OOP (olive oil promace) or OO (olive oil) depends on the creator. Personally using both; depending on which recipe is being requested.
My motto is use what works with your budget without cheating your audience.

I've used PU, EV, and pomace fro 100% OO soap. None of them will reach medium within 10 minute and I blend in 5 second bursts.
I think there is definitely something off with your OO if it traced so fast with a high OO recipe. If you are using a blend of other oils tho, it maybe because other oils.
