This is only my second loaf of goat's milk soap. I don't know what I was thinking today. Maybe I shouldn't have been doing other things while patiently adding my lye to the frozen CONDENSED goat's milk. I kept thinking it looked a little thick.
The first batch I made 1/2 lye water and added it to the frozen condensed goat's milk. I loved the way it looked/felt coming out of the mold.
Is my non diluted batch ruined? Maybe I created something better? LOL. I added the same amount of condensed goat's milk as I would have added water and milk. i.e. 20 oz. It seemed okay going into the mold. It is 'chillin' in the fridge right now, so I am not sure how it is going to unmold/cut yet.

Thoughts? It is still the same amount of "liquid"...just wondering if the lye is going to be a problem

I meant to say "evaporated" goat's milk. So I should have added 1 part water to one part GM to get the real thing. I think I will have to wait and see. HA! And to think when I first started I thought it was a disaster the time I forgot to add fragrance...LOL!
I remember as my dad was getting old, (he used to love to bake). My mom had to sit by the table to make sure he didn't forget any ingredients. Maybe I should start thinking along those lines. ;)

How long did it take for you to mix the GM and lye? I have been reading here about the issue of scorching the milk and peoples' troubles with that. Did you also use an ice bath for the GM mixture? I'm still a total newb. and I'm not ready to tackle milk soap just yet, but I am very interested in making some in the future. I also can't wait to hear about how this turns out.

Yes, I froze the GM in ice cube trays, then put it in a glass container in an ice bath and sprinkled the lye on a little at a time. Kept watching the temp to keep it around 80.
The first successful attempt, I froze the evaporated milk, then mixed the 1 part water with the lye and added that SLOWLY to the frozen milk.

BTW, just unmolded the super GM batch...and it seems okay. hmmm... wondering if it will go rancid because of the concentration.

I've done the same thing and the soap turned out fine. But now when I use any evaporated or condensed milks I split my liquids and use distilled water for the lye solution and pour the undiluted gm in at light trace. That way I still get a full milk soap. Its easier to add the gm in at trace than worry about it scorching or smelling in the lye solution. Ick!

OP, I did this too, not even realizing that it was evaporated GM. It turned out well, although I was a little worried at first. Good luck to you on this fine and noble venture.
