Depends on what you like. I make 90/10 bars and I didn't like them until they were about 1 1/2 years old. I tried one at a year and it was still not very bubbly and too slick for my taste. At 2 years now, it's fabulous though. Hard to wait for that time.

I read your post as 15% castor oil but now I assume you meant coconut oil. I would think that would be ready earlier, with the coconut. My bars are 90 OO and 10 castor.

I plan to do bastille as soon as my cutter arrives and will be 85/15 also. I was told to test at 6-8 months but 1 year is best.

I do one that is 70% and I love it at 6-8 months; I can't remember exactly, but the remaining oils are for bubbles, coconut, castor etc. I have the recipe in my other computer. It took awhile to get hard just with the 70%, anyway maybe something like that would not be as hard to wait for. It turned out nice enough that I am saving for gifts, and myself.

I'll probably hand some of this out at christmas. Its only a body soap since I added a bit too much fragrance and it should be nice by then. I found some place to buy castile that has been aged for a year. If I like it, I will make my own. I don't mind waiting for what I make but I really need a gentle soap now, I've been having issues with my dry, sensitive face skin.

EDIT: the heck with it, I'm going to whip up a small 100%OO batch tonight.

Made a 2lb batch of castile. Used a nice light (color wise) Olive oil, hope it gives me a nice light bar. I expected it to take longer to trace but it was only 5 minutes or so. OO was room temp and lye was 110*, it was nice not having to wait on oils to cool.
Now to figure out what to do with the peanut oil I bought.

Obsidian, when you cut your bars cut a small one off the end and try it in 6 weeks, then every couple of weeks after that. I use castile or high OO for my face at about 6 weeks and love it.

Hi guys - my basic recipe is 30% olive oil - is this considered a low or a high percentage? I'm currently allowing a 6 week cure time - do you think this is long enough?
Thanks

That is a pretty low to average amount of OO. High would be 90% plus. They need longer cure times. For the 30% OO, it should be fine with 4-6 week cure time.
