I took a leap and bought this mold last night. Frankly, was scared to with no feedback, but I guess everyone starts somewhere.

Now if only it would get here now!! Patience is still not my thing. I'm hoping a slab mold will help me with some swirls and with that stupid partial gel that I keep getting when I try not to gel! I thought I had one that didn't gel, but was looking at it and it did, not much, but right in the middle where the bars cut the nicest...ugly circle. Boooo!

I won't tell you what I used for that one because the repercussions before coffee at 6 am would be too much. Lol! :silent:

with these types of molds you will want to "prep" the mold before using by wiping some mineral oil (just a very thin layer) before soaping and possibly try not to soap a sticky or castille soap for the first few uses.
I have a Kelsei mold that is made out of the same material, and it's well seasoned now (I've had it for about 7 years).
Once it's 'seasoned' your soap will/should just slide right out with no prodding or extra prep.

Good luck! You may grow to love it! It took me a while to love my mold, but I finally did. :)

Oh another piece of advice. When storing in between batches either store it put together or lying completely flat, otherwise the sides and slats have a tendency to warp.

Thank you for the tips! I wish I had known about the mineral oil! I have an hdpe log mold that I bought from another local soap maker (4 pound mold for $15...score!). I like to have never got my cinnamon soap out of it!! I did a basic recipe in it and had no problem, but that cinnamon just stuck like crazy. I stuck it in the freezer and nothing. Finally scraped the bottom of the mold off.

My husband has a ton of mineral oil so I'll grab a bottle and rub the one I have and the new one down with it.

I think I have it stored flat. Will go and check on that right now!

It's already here and that was with a little snafu with my address (forgot to change to our new addy)! I definitely give the seller a thumbs up on shipping times! I'm hoping I get to use it tonight. :)

I have log molds made out of this material and always grease the bottom and sides with petroleum jelly to keep the soap from sticking. I tried food grade silicone spray, but it didn't work well.
