I'd rather not use my kitchen for making CP soap, but I'd rather use my basement. Anyone here ever use a crockpot to melt their oils and get it all going? How about those 'hotplates' that look like stovetop elements? Any luck, success disasters? Recommendations?

I use a 1 burner hot plate down in my basement and it works like a charm .$10.00 or less at Wal Mart . A crock pot would take longer to melt your oils , but could be used if you already have one .

Hope that Helps

I have used my crock pot but it does take longer. It's ok though if you are waiting on your lye water to cool. My crock pot is one of those real litle ones...perfect for 1 to 1-1/2 lb batches.
