I used stuff I had at home and purchased locally at the supermarket for months ... then after looking at many amazing photos in the 'photo gallery', I had the strong 'need' to buy colouring agents (other than the natural stuff I'd been using).

I think in the past few months I've made a three online purchases ... but I only have to share this info with my dog ... as my hubby died nearly two years ago. I can sometimes hear my hubby teasing me ... but I also know he's happy I'm having fun!

Dragonkaz - I'm sorry to hear your husband died but I'm glad you have a dog to share things. Our animals are like children to us (annoying and ornery).

Have fun with it. After all the money I've spent over the years, I went back to basics.

What is the "basics" if you don't mind telling? I would love to find a great basic soap recipe and stick with it. I can't seem to narrow it down. I am a total flop with Goat's milk which is a shame since my son and granddaughter needs it for their skin issues.

krzybo -

I don't know about other people but my "basics" are coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil and castor oil. Although, I do use Crisco in a couple of recipes. When I use the Crisco, I don't add palm. Although, I have found I do like palm kernel oil as a replacement for coconut oil.

Have you looked through the forum for soap recipes? You might find one you like. Or you might find one that you can tweak until you do like it. Also, there's a lot of info on the forum about doing GM soap. Why do you think your batches are flops?

Have you seen this tutorial?

Hazel: My Goat's milk soap turns so dark and doesn't take any of the fragrance oils I've tried. It just ends up looking bad AND stinking. I've gotten a few suggestions that I am going to try and hopefully will find one that works for me. Thanks so much for your post. I use the same oils you use so I guess I'm considered a basic, too. I'm too new at this to play around too much because I'm not sure what I would come up with. :?:

I'm new to and have probably spent about the same this month. Its insane but I love it! Once we find our way we can reign in costs. Bright side is I never have to buy soap again!

exactly what I always say..at least my kids are clean and so are our clothes..I could have a worse addiction than soaping :)
