Why do lye calculators contradict each other?? One is telling me to use 142g lye and another is saying 49g!! HUGE difference!
I am using...

340g olive pomace
283g coconut oil (solid)
283g palm oil
57g beeswax

Does anyone know which is right?

Ok, I am going with 142 as every other calculator i have used since is giving me roughly this!

without running it through a soap calculator myself I can tell you that 49 grams isn't enough. sounds like you made an error in entering it or reading the amounts, or that the program is flawed - but whatever you got your answer on another calc so that's good.

which calc gave you the 49?

I ran your ingredients thru the soap calc that I use and it came back 135g of lye. This is figuring a 5% superfatting.

Hope this helps. Bruce

Thank you - that does help. Why do lye calculators differ so much?? I calculated mine with 28% lye concentration and 5% superfatting - do you think this sounds ok?

that's not a "variation" = an error was made somewhere, either in your entering or in the program.

which calc gave you the 49? i'll check it and see what *I* get.
