hello everyone, i need some help before i start my first attempt at cp soap tomorrow. (very nervous!). Iv got a recipe off the internet and have run it through 2 lye calculators but they both came up with different ammounts :? iv spent a lot of money on the ingredients and don't want to waste them by doing something silly!

My recipe is:

454g olive oil
284g coconut oil
170g shea butter
lemon and juniper fragrance oils

if anyone could help me with how much water/caustic soda to use id be very grateful. Thankyou lovely soapers!

you might be getting differences due to the fact that you are using grams.... don't really know if that is the case.

I converted your recipe to ounces and this is what I came up with.

454g = 16.0143 oz
284g = 10.0178 oz
170g = 5.99657 oz

for a total of 32.03 oz batch
6% lye discount = 4.46 oz of lye

Liquid with no discount would be 11.06 oz

thanks meadowyck, ill convert it in a bit and see what that comes out with. Carebear, i used:
the sage - 120g lye, 227 to 340g water
soapcalc.net - 140g lye, 345g water

I think iv got the jist of the calcs, percentages of superfat correspond to how much lye to use right?

what do you guys think to the recipe? I was a bit worried when i put it through soapcalc.net as it came out with some numbers at the bottom relating to hardness/conditioning ect. next to creamy on a scale of 16 - 48 it said 17.

Do i really need to worry about these things or not? (i'm planning on giving the soap as christmas presents which is why i really wana get this right!)

thanks.
