I would like to make some confetti soap using soap shavings accumulated from previous soaps I have made. I am uncertain what ratio of soap shavings to the amount of soap batter I should use.

If I want to fill a three pound loaf mold how much soap shavings should I use and how much soap batter?

I would make a 2 lb batch of soap, and use 1 lb of confetti. I find that any more than that, and your soap wants to separate at the areas where the most confetti soap clumps. Get your soap to at least a medium(ish) trace before mixing in the confetti, and add a little confetti at the time and hand stir between additions. Then pour. But watch while you are pouring for any largish clumps and remove them before they hit the mold.

Good point. When I did mine, I did it HP and had the confetti in with the oils throughout, so it was a horse of a different safari.

I have had to re-purpose LOTS of confetti soap, unfortunately. I really don't like HP soap making, whether it is bars or LS, so you are the expert thare.

If doing a CP soap, I use about 1 part shavings to 2 or 3 parts soap batter by weight. It depends on how many shavings I've got. Sounds like this is close to what Susie does.

Too few shavings and the soap doesn't look right to me, so I just save shavings for awhile longer. When I've added too many shavings, it gets harder and harder to stir the shavings evenly into the batter. The result is a stiff soap that is hard to put into the mold and clumps of dry shavings in the soap that flake apart when I cut the soap -- ugh.

Thanks for all the very helpful suggestions. I am going to go with the 1:2 ratio by weight of shavings to batter. My shavings are fairly new but are probably are rather dried out, so I am going to take the suggestion of misting with a little water. Sounds like a good idea to me.
