Went to my little market today and had 3 people come to my booth and tell me my soap fantastic for one, and awesome from 2 others. These were new customers last week. Now that makes one feel good. I asked each to refresh my memory of which they purchased and all 3 were my 45/25 tallow lard with dual lye and 2 were with vinegar as water replacement which I have really fallen in love with. Only downfall is not being able to masterbatch the vinegar lye solution. It just made me happy and I had to share :). I admit I have never had any complaints but this just really perked me up today!

unsolicited compliments are priceless. My niece's husband told me at Christmas dinner that he ran out of Dove and ended up using one of my bars I gave him LAST Christmas. He loved it.

Compliments from relative strangers are so validating as they have nothing to lose or gain. I'm going to take this as a lesson to be more vocal with positives toward people I don't even know. This is proof that it can really make someone's day.....with very little effort on our part.

I hope you're doing well and taking some time for yourself!

Three customers taking the time to stop, they must have been very impressed. That would brighten my day. Just curious what does vinegar do in soap? After reading so many positive things here, I'll be giving lard and tallow a try. Can't wait.

I've wondered about masterbatching vinegar lye solution, too, but it seems a bit more complex than I want to go. I think one of the guys here mentioned it in a post once, but not sure how it worked out.

So basically, I just use my my 50% masterbatch and make up the difference in vinegar when I want to do a vinegar soap. If my calculations are correct, I end up with a bit less than 2% SA that way when doing 33% lye concentration. I could be wrong of course, but I've done the math a few times and that's what I come up with.

Sometimes I go with my 50/50 masterbatch and also use vinegar for the remainder. I multiply the amount of vinegar I want to use by 0.0357 to get the amount of extra NaOH to use. I do not masterbatch my vinegar lye solution because I find when the lye reacts with the vinegar it gets really thick.

LOL, I noticed I need to learn to spell compliment or teach the fingers to type correctly :)

Scard, the vinegar makes for a harder bar. Try tallow/lard at 45/25% and I am guessing you will really like it
Thankyou Jewels I have been enjoying my few weeks at home but have to go back to the parents New Years Eve :-(. Yep the compliments really made my day.

That's so great! Good for you, Carolyn!

Congratulations! I have a question about substituting vinegar for your lye liquid. What does it do? What are the benefits?
