I'd love to know about this too. How much is too much? I have powdered fd&c colours, and I want some colour but not enough to stain.Have done quite a lot of searching-every recipe says a pinch,or sufficient to colour, but no hard n fast guidelines...maybe it's just a case of trial & purple tinged skin & washcloths error??

I'm worried about how the powdered dye would react in the water, but since I just realized that I purchased the oil suluble F,D & C... I guess I will have to suck it up and buy something else. No idea what I'm going to use those for!

I picked up the wilton food dyes and I have to say OMG soooo good, thank you to all the other threads that suggest them. I made candy cane bath bombs last night... unfortunately I couldn't leave well enough alone and decided they needed ONE more spritz... and they warted on me. Oh well, lesson learnt!
