im not too familiar with coconut oil, but is it suppose to smell like coconut? Yesterday I purchased a bottle of LouAnna Coconut Oil at my local walmart. i popped open the lid expecting to get a nice whiff of coconut but it has no smell at all! it was $5.47 for a 31oz bottle. is this acceptable or should i buy a better quality? how can you tell the difference between good and bad quality CO?

hey chris,
The smell hasn't got much to do with the quality. Unrefined coconut oil smells like coconut and refined doesn't.

None of the co i have bought smelled like coconut, but they work great for soap. If you want coc smell, you may have to buy a fo that has that smell, peak hs a good coc milk fo.

something I have been thinking about trying.
add fresh coconut milk at trace for not only the scent but the extra vitamins and such.
when I did this with the mango the scent was very intoxicating :)
hmm
further thought
pinapple juice + coconut milk + half and half = pina colada......soap?
sounds good

Layne, did you use fresh mango ?

If you do try the pina colada please post results. I wonder whether the acidity in the pineapple will have any adverse effect on the soap.

remember the pink rounds i posted awhile back?
still smells just as fresh as the day i made it.

will have to research the benifits of pineapple for the skin also.

Extra Virgin Unprocessed Coconut Oil smells like coconut. *swoons* I love it but the smell doesn't stay around in soap.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the acids in Pineapple juice may do something to the lye reaction???
