Sooooo....I have had a coworker request a bar of soap without coconut oil. She is highly allergic to coconut and has yet to find a bat of handmade soap that doesn't contain coconut oil. I'd like the bar to have a little bit of cleansing and bubbles....but I'm not having much luck playing around with Soap Cal. Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I started out hating coconut oil because of how drying it can be for my skin. I subbed it out for Babassu, which is AWESOME! It is a bit pricey, but I really love it. You can also use PKO oil, but there is some controversy with that so you have to be sure that people you will be giving your soap to don't have a problem.

Good luck!

Any soap is going to be cleansing, even if soapcalc gives it a value of 0, so don't worry about trying to up this number too much. For bubbles, try castor oil (5-10%).

100% OO (Castille) makes a wonderful soap and if you want you can add some Castor to it for more bubbles. Plain, unscented, uncoloured Castille is one of my best sellers - I sold out of it the first weekend I had it at the kiosk.

It is really gentle and has a creamy lather - I use a 5% Superfat & 5% Water Discount.....

do you have palm? you could do palm and olive & castor? i made it once, made a really hard bar, creamy not to bubbly, but cant remember if i used castor, didnt take notes then!

Yep I'd do a castille too - if she has allergies, she likely has sensitive skin too.. it would be a nice gentle soap for her.

:)

Good 1 to 1 replacements for coconut oil would be either PKO or Babassu oil. Their properties in soap (i.e. bubbliness, cleansing, and hardness) are very similar to what you'd get if you used coconut. Castor oil is wonderful and has its place (I use it in just about all my formulas), but it doesn't make the same kind of lather that Coconut, PKO or Babassu make if you use it 1 to 1 in place of those particular oils (just in case you were wondering if it possibly would).

I'm going to chime in with the castile group here. Properly made, it's lovely stuff.
