I've been looking online for some organic coconut oil and I found some that is for soap making, "not for consumption."

Usually I just buy coconut oil in the grocery store, though not organic. I'm wondering why this would not be for consumption. Thanks for any input.

I have no idea. Your best bet would probably be to contact the supplier directly and ask them.

The coconuts used in soap making are of the genus Cocos Fernikus Aduidendium, while the coconuts used in food oil making are from the genus Cacos Pludulim Phoronos. The process used in extracting the oil differs between the two. The food oil uses a steam extraction method whilst the soap oil uses Activated Cortoid Enzyme extraction. It the Active Enzymes that communicate with the meat of the coconut and make it unsuitable for use as a food product.
Mmmmmm, at least that's what I think it is, I could be wayyyyyyy wrong.
In fact I'd say I made the whole thing up.
So my final answer is I also don't know either.

LOL I don't know either.

OK - at first you had me Jeremy, and I'm thinking "how does he know that?" After reading it a second time, I'm thinking why not?

I just bought 12 jars of Louana co at Walmart today and all I can add is that the organic co was almost $10 more per jar!

From what I have read, some places don't spend the extra time and money testing for certain usages of different oils. So in this case, they probably did not do the extensive testing to ensure its safety for consumption. It probably can be consumed but they don't want to be held liable if something should go wrong so until/unless they test it for that purpose in mind, they just play it safe and discourage consumption.

I hope I made some sense. :?

that sounds on target to me....about them not having tested.......i agree that it would be interesting to ask them and see what they say

I called the company...

I forgot exactly what he said now, but basically something was off and it was bitter tasting. It prob. would've been fine for soap but I decided not to buy it, since it was an online company I had never dealt with. Thanks for all your input.

They use coconut oil for popcorn in the theatres , so that would be the for consumption kind.
