I am going to make a coconut-scented soap with grated coconut sprinkled on top, and thought that it may be an interesting idea to add some coconut milk.
Has anyone tryed this?

I love the scent of coconut and have made many batches that are scented with it; also have used coconut milk in many batches. Love it!
Never used grated coconut on top but it does sound appealing. Post pics!

Thanks, I will post photos (at least, if it comes out ok :) )
You use the coconut milk to make the lye solution, or do you add it at trace (like an additive)?
And what about the fat on the milk, do you have any way to calculate it and add up lye to saponify it , or do you just ignore it?

Tanks again

You can freeze the coconut milk and use it as part of the liquid. I dissolve the lye in part water, then add the frozen coconut milk. This keeps the lye solution from overheating. Coconut scent does not survive the lye, so you would need to use a fragrance oil.

I use it also.

I calculate the amount of water I need for the recipe and then use only half that amount to dissolve the NaOH in.

Then, at light trace, replace the remainder amount of water (that you normally would have used at the beginning) with coconut milk. It will accelerate your trace, though, so best be ready . . .

You can fiddle with your amounts and use mostly coconut milk or just a little and see how you like the effect.

Has anyone ever seen a Coconut Essential Oil? There are all sorts of FO's, but I'd really like an EO...

I am actually making a coconut scented soap tonight with coconut milk and ground up toasted coconut throughout - I am not a fan of the big chunky stuff on top of my soaps but I know RikRaks on here did it once and it looked lovely :D

I plan on using tit diox to make it nice and white too - I'm very excited!

I am using Carribbean Coconut from WSP...I've also got a Coconut Flavor oil from BB but I'm saving that for lip balm.
