Hi, Im wanting to make a coconut & lime soap, but i dont have a recipe so was just going to experiment, i have a shea butter base. Can i just ask would this base be ok?. Should i add some coconut oil and if yes how much?. And also with the lime would a pure essential lime oil be best or lime fragrance. Many thanks Maria

You posted this in the Melt & Pour forum. Do you want to make soap from scratch or use the base you have?

For me, I don't think foodstuff should be added to MP because of the risk of it going bad. Also, if you add additional oil, you could throw off the base's formulation and you might lose the lather. For the scent, you should check the manufacturer's recommendation on how much to add.

Hi yes thanks that looks amazing. My problem is that ive only done melt & pour so this seems beyond me at the moment. may thanks maria

Hi, I'll reiterate what Pamielynn said. I personally haven't had good results trying to add milks or oils to M&P bases before.

Find a good Coconut & Lime fragrance oil if that is the scent you are going for. If you just want a lime scent, either a lime EO or FO would work. The supplier should be able to tell you appropriate usage amounts.

Good luck!
