Is it possible? If not, can you make your own glycerin (clear) soap? I tried looking this up, but either i seriously failed at my google search (also searched here), or there's not much info about this.

So, can you make your own CP clear soap, and/or can you make your own clear glycerin soap (not MP)?

And..this leads to another question that confuses me. I have read all over the place that glycerin is a by-product of soap-making. However...must not be CP soap-making, so do they mean the 'soap' (detergent) commercially made?

Thanks :)

Yes, it is possible, but takes a lot of work. I've tried it a couple of times, with average results.

Try on google: homemade transparent soap or homemade glycerin soap.

Shortly, you make a HP with low superfat, and add sugar, alcohol and glycerin.

Or probably you can do it CP, but you still need to rebatch it with adding alcohol, sugar and glycerin.

Homemade soap already contains some glycerin. This is why glycerin isn't a by-product, but more of an ... insider.

Thanks fragola! that sort of summed it all up. It's a shame, though because I think it would be lovely to be able to add some clear CP elements to soap.

Saponification is the chemical reaction where three molecules of either Na or KOH react with a molecule of fat, to produce three molecules of soap and a molecule of glycerin (glycerol).

Hence, glycerine's 'insider' status.
