How would you add cider to soap? Would it take place of the water in the lye mixture? Do I need some amount of water with it?
Thanks for any info!

OK, now I'm confused. If it's OK to substitute another liquid for water when mixing with the lye, how come when I tried it with tea it reeked to high heaven? Can tea be burned by the lye? Does any other liquid besides water have to be cold?

Any fluid should be cold or at the very least room temp. When I use water, it is just room temp. When I did beer, it was cold and those who use milk often have it semi frozen. Tea infusions should definately be cooled before adding lye to them.

Ah, see, I didn't know that. Mine was room temperature. I guess the bad smell was burnt tea!

Replacing water with Cider

Just substitute water with an equal amount of cider. Sort of like you do when you make milk or goats milk based soaps. Make sure the cider is flat and make sure it is cold so you do not have any lye accidents. Should work fine.
