**** putting lables on my soaps.
I recieved an email from my mum a few minutes ago and she said,
Quote "Just a wee note on the parcel you sent us. MAF kept 6 of the cakes of soap that had plant stuff in them. Confiscated them. So be very carefull what you put in them if you send any overseas" Quote.
That was to NZ.
Not sure what MAF stands for. Maybe Mean ..etc.
Actually I googled and it is =Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry
How do they think that totally lye cooked soap would worry NZ.
Should I write to them.

I hope their wives enjoy the booty.

Blimey! I have something that MAF could stand for....(Mean Angry F...)....but I'm not allowed to print all of it or I would have to wash my own mouth out with soap!!!

How does anything else get into that country then? Surely other products imported into NZ have botanicals in them in some form? Very interesting......

Tanya :)

What is "NZ"?

My bf came home from Iraq this summer and I had mailed him a bar of goats milk soap. Someone in the airport had searched his bag and taken the soap on the way back to the states.

Guess home made soap is considered to be dangerous stuff.

Where, not what. That is where all the little kiwis like me were born. NewZealand.
So your soap got through the post to him but not back through customs.
Me thinks there are some very clean Customs Officers wives and girlfriends.

I'll  with you too, those darn customs agents! But they're only doing their job, over than when it comes down to them stealing property that doesn't belong to them, that's another forum discussion. Btt, here's an  try listing the ingredients in, INCI nomenclature, on your soaps next time when you send your relatives a care package see if those get through customs. Another thing, also, in certain countries certain plants & plant material are prohibited from being imported in any form due too phytosanitary laws & regulations. I alto know I sometimes import orchids during the spring & summer months.

NZ is a little over-the-top with their biosecurity. We go every year (mr surf girl is a Kiwi), and last year, they confiscated his juggling balls. Why, you ask? Because they contain grains of something, millet perhaps. They actually sliced one (these were not cheap balls) to reveal the offending dangerous seeds. Because, of course, one might take one's juggling ball, slice it open in farmland, and scatter potentially diseased seeds to the four winds.

It pays to be safe, I suppose. NZ is pretty darn clean.

FWIW, I sent a package of soaps to NZ for Christmas, and four bars contained bits of lavender and rosemary, and another two contained pureed cucumber. They got through fine. I guess my MAF officers were less diligent.

Yes it was a bit silly of me to not check. I guess I was just an over excited soaper wanting to share my goodies with the family.
I thought maybe they thought we smoke our soaps
Thats a Kiwi ,our National bird.

Cuddly

Thanks Mandolyn
Yeah, I have never seen such a gorgeous picture as that one before of the Kiwi bird .
He / she will have people flocking to see NewZealand , a very beautiful country I kid you not.

My husband is from NZ and apparently sometimes when we send presents to his parents they receive the package and it's practically torn to shreds and everything is unwrapped! ANNOYING! Other times, nothing. It's the luck of the draw I guess. I've worked on a lot of cruise ships and once my mom sent me stuff for a cold that I had (... a month before when she sent it) and everything had been confiscated!! The only thing I got was the "here's some stuff for your cold" note. I was livid! It's not like they send it back either, no they just keep it. Grrrr..... this was somewhere in the Mediterranean not NZ though, I think they were just stealing... there's a lot of mail theft over there.

Maybe your on their computor maybe some bright little key pad tapper in the basement of a goverment department thinks your are just doing dummy runs with blanks so far. But he thinks he's onto the case, we need creepy music here, and he /she thinks that just one more soap run by you and he'll hit the jack pot and be promoted to an office bigger than the soapbox one he presently works on. Personally I think he 's sniffed too many soap bars.

The cat picture? LOL, not my cat... just think it's a funny picture. I do have a fat cat, but he's not THAT fat.
