Charcoal Soap has chalky white film ?

Hi guys,

I made my first batch of cold process Charcoal Soap last night & when i had a look at it this morning, there’s kind of a white chalky film over the top. I sprayed it with 70% isopropyl alcohol 13 min after pouring into the mold. I’m sure it’s harmless but just would like to verify what it could be from? I am very new to making soap so i’m still learning things to do & not do!

It is ash and is quite typical with charcoal soaps. At least mine always end up with ash and it shows up so beautifully on dark soap. It does not hurt a thing and I do not worry about it and neither do my customers.

I agree it’s ash. My charcoal soaps get some sometimes too. It’s so much more obvious on the black soap.

Ash. It'll rinse right off the soap when it comes time to start using it.

I have come to expect a little ash with my favorite recipes.
Shows up more on the darker soaps but is still there on the white ones.
