Showing my true American ignorance here.

Is it expected (or preferred, or should I just do it) spell color as colour, flavor as flavour, etc? Specifically on my site, labels, etc?

Spell check dislikes those spellings LOL

Working on SEO and if MOST people in Canada search for (rough example) "flavoured lip balm" or "coloured soap" - spelling it that way will result in higher ranking. If most Canadians spell it right (JUST KIDDING) without the "u", then I need to as well. Google isn't a whole lot of help here.

I sometimes use flavour or colour as additional tags. The term "lippy" means lip balm in some countries too, so I also use lippy as a tag when approriate. It couldn't hurt, if you are trying to reach a Canadain/European customer base. It all boils down to iff you want to mess with international shipping and import/export factors and FDA regulations that vary by country. It took me 9 months to figure out how to meet the standards in Sweden so I could legaly wholesale there.

In addition to SEO, I'm thinking of my labels and stuff for farmer's markets - in Canada. I don't know what customers would expect to see or if they have a preference. This part of my marketing research isn't going so well :/

Amy I've had people comment on how nice it is to see Canadian spelling in Canada so all my labels are spelled using our version. If they're buying from the US they expect the US version. In the end it comes down to what you prefer though.

Thanks Lindy :) I'm rather fond of all things Canadian (except the immigration process LOL), and will be selling primarily locally (at least to start), so I'll go with the Canadian spelling.

spelling!!

HI there, well Im Canadian) and I have seen items marketed here in Canada with the American spelling. To me or my friends personally..it doesnt make a difference , and the omission...or inclusion of the "u" does not seem to make a difference when I do online searches........this prolly isnt the answer you are looking for,but maybe itll help? lol good luck!
