Hello everyone,

This may have been covered before but I was just checking to see if I can use evaporated canned GM? It's been so long since I've made it and I cant remember what I used! Thank you! If it's ok to use, I'd like to whip up a batch tonight.

Yes, I've used it. The recommendation is to subtract half the required amount of water and add the lye to that, then add the evaporated goat milk to the oils in the amount that makes up the subtracted water. So, for example, if your recipe calls for 10 oz. water, you can use 5 oz. water to mix with the lye, and 5 oz. evaporated goat milk to mix with the oils. It seems to work better this way.

I once tried to add lye to the evaporated goat milk and it was a solid orange chunk in minutes.

Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to hear . I was never a fan of adding any kind of milk to the lye so this works great and thats how I add my coconut milk too. Thanks for the quick reply, I'm gonna go make soap!

I've too have used canned goats milk with great success. What I did is the same as Rock&Royalty in that I added the lye to the reduced amount of required water (water amount to be made up by the goats milk). I allowed my water/lye mixture to cool to 80 degrees F. While the water/lye mixture was cooling, I very slowly heated the goats milk to 80 degrees F. Once both liquids were at 80 degrees I added the water/lye mixture to the goats milk slowly while whisking briskly. This prevented curdling of the milk because I added slowly while whisking and also the lower temperature. The milk did darken in color a little bit but not significantly. I then add this water/lye/milk mixture to my oils which also were at 80 degrees F and then blended normally. I actually quite enjoy the color when done. It's kind of a cream color which I think is quite pretty. I've attached a photograph for view so you can see the color after the bars were cut.
