Last week I attempted to make my first batch of cp soap and it didn't turn out. I had a feeling something was wrong, and I now think I know what it was. I think I added too much olive oil. It just isn't setting up AND the recipe said I would use one quart container, and I used almost 2!

I checked the ph balance and it's safe, but it is hardly getting firm, even after a week. I can't cut it it's too soft.

So my question is: Can I rebatch this and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks!

Hi Elisa,

At this point, you're probably better off to just toss it and start over with fresh ingredients. Sorry! :( I know some people who could save it, but it's not the thing to try just out of the starting gate....there's not that much lost.

Another thing...before you make another batch....get yourself a good digital scale, and weigh everything with that....volume measure with soap are not accurate enough. Weigh your water, weigh your lye, weigh your oils....preferably in grams (just my HO there--a scale that measure in 1/10 oz increments will also work), and start over with a good recipe.

I think you'll be much happier. :)

Thanks, I'll just chalk it up as experience.

I made my second batch yesterday and it turned out great. Success at last. It was a different recipe but I think my measurements were off the first time around. Now, I can't wait to experiment with colors and scents!

Thanks again :)

I'd stick it somewhere cool and dry and forget about it for a month or so... just to see what happens. Who knows... could turn out to be a very nice Castile type with some time.

What do you have to lose?
