I'm planning on buying my lye through the internet for the most part, but I was wondering just in case I want to buy it locally - does anyone know of somewhere in the Washington DC/northern Virginia area of a place that sells lye locally?

Thanks,
Samara

I'm in Northern VA and the answer is... Not anymore that I know of. I used to get it from Lowe's, but just recently, it's been taken off the shelves. As recently as my last order. So now, online is the only option I am aware of.

I've heard Ace Hardware may sell it.

There is a place in Richmond that sells in 50lb bags, they have a $150 minimum, around 3 50 lb bags. They won't let me use my car, but I can take DH's truck and we could share/split it up. I think there are several of us DC Metro Soapers here. Whatcha think?

As for buying 1lb Jars most TruValue stores sell it.
