I strive for that too, I just wonder if anyone has noticed a difference between low to mid-high range in the 20's?

It seems to me that the higher my bubbly number goes the higher goes the cleansing value of the soap so I try to keep the bubbly number in the lower to mid twenties. If someone has a solution for that I would love to hear from them.

Same here. I also add a little sugar to boost the bubbles, and Castor. I want it all though. I enjoy the bubbles but I also want high conditioning and creaminess. I haven't made anything over 17 on the cleansing scale, and I usually keep my batches around 10-14.

I can't get over 20's on bubbly either without too high of cleansing. Only time was all coconut oil with high superfat.
I do sugar now too and hope it gives a boost to my higher conditioning but I'm wondering if all those 'conditioning' oils sitting in there will just negate the sugar also when being used. IDK. I'm not even sure how the sugar boosts the bubbles so can't figure if will help in the end or not.
Like can you do a bar with say 60 conditioning, 40's creamy, only 19 or so bubbly and add sugar to get more bubbles? Would it really work? Thinking some oils likely won't even allow sugar to give bubbles if there are enough of them in there but I'd love to know more info. either way. :)

My bubble % is very low, even 15! up to 17. And I can see sugar helps a bit, there are actually bubbles! :) Not only creamy, flat lather. But also will love to find out how - technically - sugar makes the bubbles happen :)

In my case 1 tsp (EDIT: Sorry I mean TEA SPOON not table spoon) on pound of soap. But I will try to use bit more, as sugar is also moisturizer :)

O! So afterward I would not make so much harm :) Thank you Chris, I will go for it with next batch! But because of the sugar does it heat faster?

The "cleansing" number is the percent of myristic and lauric acids. These are the fatty acidds that make highly soluble soaps that lather freely in cold or hard water. The main soaping fats in this category are coconut, palm kernel, and babassu.

The "bubbly" number is the percent of myristic, lauric, and ricinolenic acids in your fats. The main soaping fats that contribute to this number are the ones listed above plus castor.

If you want to increase ONLY the bubbly number and not the cleansing number, your only option is to increase the castor oil amount in your recipe. Or look at additives that can increase the lather, as others are suggesting. Sugar, IMO, does increase lather a bit, but don't expect miracles. Also, keep your superfat at a reasonable percentage -- more free fat = less lather.

I've been using 1tbs sugar and can't wait to see if it helps.
Lower superfat could be an option took. I get more fats since most of my powders are mixes with oils ahead of time.
Maybe I'll mix with castor but think I tried and it didn't work so well.

Sugar does heat it up though!

DeeAnna, can I ask about the hardness? Which number is for hardness? I struggle with that a lot :\ Your answer will be very appreciated!! :)

Twiggy, do you use sodium lactate? I won't make soap without it. And I also add salt to my lye solution. Rock hardness! The sugar thing I did in the past and burnt my soap to a crisp, because I use a lot of milks. BUT, I'm going to try it again and make sure it doesn't gel.
