Wanted to post this on the other 'photos' thread with Ricing, volcanoes etc, but as I'm not sure what this is I thought I would ask my learned friends.

I call it breadcrumbs : )

It started as soap on a stick (luckily I had managed to mould half of my soap before it seized). It went from light trace to SOAS very quickly. I then popped the unused portion of soap back on the heat to warm it gently. I think the harder oils had started to cool quicker than the soft oils as there were big lumps of 'butter' in it. I was successful in removing these lumps by reheating, stirring and letting them melt back in to the rest of the batter. Then once I tried to mould it, it went very hard almost immediately I got it into the mold, so that I ended up pushing it in with my hands. What was left in the pot was these 'breadcrumbs'. In fact some of the soap I was forcing into the mold was turning to breadcrumbs too. It was pretty much setting as it was being moulded.

Thoughts and comments?

Is this a hot process or cold process soap? If it's hot process, I'd say those were overcooked or cooled bits of soap from the sides of the pot. If it's cold process and it seized, I'd guess it's just pieces of the seized batter. Hopefully one of the more experienced soapers will chime in with an exact cause. It might help if you posted your recipe and process.

I had a similar situation, caused by a jasmine fo with castile. It accelerated something fierce and I barely got it in the mold. It started to harden so much, there are the same bubbles you see on your soap also. Still works just fine but it's not the prettiest thing, for sure. Thankfully, it's intended purpose was laundry soap so it's being grated up anyhow

They aint bubbles - they're breadcrumbs! ;)
I think I'm going to start soaping with a higher water ratio. I made one 'mistake' batch with too much castor oil in it (20%) but it had a higher water ratio and I actually like the consistency of that batter over the other two I've made, it was slower to trace and i was able to pour it into the molds rather than scoop it.
