I've finally put together a body wash recipe that I really like.

It is

5 Parts Liquid Soap (that I made)
1 Part Avocado Oil
1 Part Vegetable Glycerin
1/2 Part Honey
1/2 Part Distilled H2O

No scents or colors yet.

I put it in a bottle and have been using it. When I let it sit overnight though, the oils separate to the top of the bottle like I have 2 layers.

What can I do to prevent this?
Would PS80 help ?
Is there a substitution I can make that may prevent this?

I'd like it to be all uniform and stay uniform.

Thanks!

What can I do to prevent this?

Very simple -- don't use so much oil. We make liquid soap with no more than 3% superfat by weight of oils because too much superfat won't stay mixed in the diluted liquid soap. You're adding yet another 12% fat by weight of diluted soap in addition to whatever superfat you originally used when making the soap paste.

Are you wanting to actually wash with this to get clean?

Would PS80 help ?

It might solubilize the oil, but you'll have to experiment. My guess is you're going to have as much or more polysorbate than soap when you're done, assuming you can get all that fat to solubilize. Why not formulate a synthetic detergent cleanser in the first place and be done with it?

Is there a substitution I can make that may prevent this?

No there's no substitute. The solution is to not use so much oil.

And using 6% honey is a surefire invitation to fungal and bacterial growth, with or without a preservative.

Thanks. 12% does seem like a lot, lol.

Think I'm going to try again without the AO or drastically reduce it.
