60% butter and 40% oil (the ratios i found listed all over the internet)

3 parts shea butter
3 parts mango butter
2 parts grapeseed oil
2 parts sweet almond oil

i DO have experience with straight mango and shea butters and love how they feel. i like the thick feeling of shea and how it is fast to absorb but leaves you feeling soft. the butter i made seems to melt too fast and turn to straight liquid - not the smooth buttery feeling that pure shea has (perhaps due to the fact that the mango butter melts faster than the shea?) and i wanted something creamy without being just plain oily but i refuse to add water since i'd have to use a preservative with it. so i'm wondering if i put WAY too much oil in? or perhaps the oils i used are really slow to absorb into the skin? i don't have any experience at all with sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil so i don't know if they're quick to absorb or not. should i just make a new batch and use more shea with less oil? should i use different carrier oils? is there a way to save this batch and just add more ingredients to it? Huh

i saw a recipe online that uses beeswax to harden it but since i have friends who are vegan i'd like to stick with non-animal products.

Your oils look great, I have to try Mango Butter, sounds so exotic!

I think my BB has 75% hard and 25% soft oil with a little starch to cut the grease. I use Natrasorb, but corn starch, wheat starch, tapioca starch - they all work, too.

i'll have to try that ratio next batch. i'll add some corn starch to this batch when i package it. right now i just have a big tub of it that will have to be reheated and freshly whipped before being put in containers. how much of it should i add to about 2 1/2 cups of oil/butter?

thank you so much for your help! crafting your own stuff is so much more fun when you're successful in doing so.

although you can get mango butter anywhere online, i buy all of my oils and butters from oilsbynature.com. the more you can buy from one source, the more you save in shipping!

Hey bloodylipstick (love the moniker  )....I use about 2 tsp liquid glycerine and 3 tsp natrasorb to a 390 gram batch (about 13.5 oz). The glycerine helps make the BB creamy and the natrasorb cuts the greasies. HTH!

Have you checked into any of these:

Waxes:
You are going to be surprised at this long list of new plant waxes that we have added which are a great alternative to beeswax. We now carry:

• APRICOT WAX
• JOJOBA WAX
• SOY WAX
• SWEET ALMOND WAX
• WHEAT GERM WAX
http://www.oilsbynature.com/whats-new.htm

It appears they aren't in stock yet, but I would be interested in knowing if anyone has experimented with these types of waxes.

IMHO avocado oil or hemp oil is the easiest or quickest to absorb, especially avocado, maybe try and make a tiny batch and see how it goes.

I was interested in the vegtable waxes as a way to make it firmer, and less "greasy" while maintaining vegan qualities.

I've never used hemp oil, I've heard that the shelf life is very short, is that true?
