Hi!

I'm looking to upscale my soap production to 25 pounds. Is there any scale you'd recommend for this?

Someone said KD 8000 is a good one but I'm worried 8 kg is not enough.

Curious to know what your experience has been!

Any other advice before plunging into big batches is welcomed :rolling:

We use MyWeigh UltraShip scales for weighing packages in my small business and also for masterbatching fats and other soapy tasks where my KD 7000 isn't big enough.

Our UltraShip 75 (75 pound capacity) has been in daily service since 2011 with no more than 2 changes of batteries in that time. You can also get 35 pound version (our UltraShip 35 is even older than the 75 and has had the same reliability) and a 55 pound version (I don't have the UltraShip 55.)

All have 0.1 ounce resolution for up to 2 pounds of weight. The UltraShip 35 has 0.2 ounce resolution from that point to the max weight. The others have 0.5 ounce resolution for their higher weight range. Any of these would be plenty accurate for larger soap batches.

If you go with this line of scales, I also recommend upgrading the plastic weighing platform with a stainless steel version. You'll thank me the first time you spill scent onto the platform. ;)

DeeAnna is right, MyWeigh scales are very nice. I have several of them that I use for precise weighing of ingredients. I have not used the large ones but the company is reliable. However be aware that there are many knock offs out there. They will look exactly like the original MyWeigh scales.

I agree about the knock offs -- good point, Todd. That's why I have stopped ordering things from Amazon that need to be the "real deal".

Another thing to consider is if you need the scale to be large enough so big buckets can sit entirely on the platform. I've used a 5 gallon bucket on the UltraShip scales with no trouble, but the sides of the bucket do hang over the edges of the platform. If you want containers to be really stable when sitting on the platform or if you have to measure large, floppy bags of stuff, a large platform can be a very a good thing. If it's more important to be able to tuck the scale away when it's not needed, then a large platform is not such a good thing.

WOW! Thank you for all this information! I will get into it, then.

Are the links you shared with me the official site? Just to be safe on the knock offs....

And on a different subject, do you use hot plates or have any advice in regards to them?

The links are for a very reputable company. I have ordered from them before.

Sadly they only ship to the US... Should I never trust Amazon for this? I have no idea where I can find that brand here...

If they say MyWeigh you should be ok. Also old willknots sells on eBay, maybe they ship to Mexico off eBay. However there are other sellers of MyWeigh scales, just Google it.
