Hi everyone,

I am new to soap making and just have a question about essential oils that fade after awhile in cp soap.I am about to buy some essential oils to make my first batch of soap and I choose the following because apparently from my research they tend to last in soap. They are

1) Lavender
2) Lemongrass
3) Rosemary
4) Peppermint
5) Geranium
6)Eucalyptus

What do you guys think, In your experience, do these essential oils last in soap.Thank you in advance.

I've used all of the above except the geranium and they have all been "stickers" for me.

Every time I've used rosemary eo, whether by itself or in combination, the scent is completely gone within the first 2 weeks of curing. I've tried gelling and not gelling, it just doesn't stick for me.

The rest are good, though, IME

They have all performed well for me although I haven't soaped rosemary straight so I can't say about that. Other strong, long lasting EOs:

anise
cedar
tea tree
litsea cubeba (may chang)
patchouli
cinnamon
clove

The last two should be used sparingly as they can cause your soap mixture to accelerate and heat up and they can be potential irritants in higher % I keep them to .2% or less of my finished product weight. Peppermint can also cause a tingling sensation in higher quantities. I don't go above .5 oz PPO for that.

Geranium can also result in acceleration/seizure.

Folded citruses hold up well for me if I don't gel and anchor with litsea, lemongrass and/or patchouli.

Good luck and enjoy your oils.

Thanks for the advice everybody. In relation to the rosemary, I am thinking about combining it with peppermint and hoping that will help a bit.

I have used everything but rosemary. Your peppermint and eucalyptus are going to be the strongest, then your lemongrass and lavender. I have used rose geranium, which I think it is the same. It would be the most subtle and one of my favorite fragrances.

I use rosemary with lavender all the time in cp and it sticks wonderfully. My friends love tthe combo
