I'm making a kitchen soap to remove kitchen odors from hands. I'm thinking of lemongrass, pomegranate, lime, pink grapefruit, orange, and vanilla (not all together - hence the post :D). What usually goes best together? I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money all at once trying to marry these scents. I wish there was a retail store nearby where I could test scents!

i love orange (5x or 10x), it seems to go really well with people's idea of orange oil having that certain quality (and justifiably so). or orange and lemon (ditto with the x's). i love to add some grapefruit or lime for that extra zing, too :) haven't made any kitchen soap in a while, but it's a fun one, have fun! i also love to add some blue poppy seeds, finely ground coffee grounds and/or cornmeal.

Oooohh. I have a suggestion. I made a kitchen soap this weekend. Hubby's suggestion was Lemon EO/Orange EO, it's the 10x fold or 5xfold, etc., but I was looking for out of the box. I made a cleaning spray out of the Lemon/Orange and it smells a lot like "Fruit Loops", very fresh.

I had a one oz bottle of "Basil & Herb" from CandleScience (which smells great on it's own IMO), mixed it with 0.5oz of Basil Nature Identical and 0.5oz Sweet orange EO (not the 5fold or 10fold).

The basil smell just shines, but you definitely get other herbacious notes (orange is lost). My co-workers both thought it smelled great for a kitchen soap. Mixed in some grated lemon peel and orange peel (dried). I think it's a winner. It's definitely a pick-me-up that reminds me of spring/summer.

Lime & Basil would be nice as well.

Orange with a little citronella and some eucalyptus is nice. If your looking for a herbal type fragrance, then sage goes very well with citrus scents...(to my nose :) )

I know that orange EO breaks down grease, so that would be good in a kitchen soap. Plus coffee grounds, for some reason I think those help smelly hands and I cant remember why. I made and orange EO and vanilla FO soap and it was heaven!

Ooh, I like all these ideas! My 10x orange from Brambleberry seems to have a lot of sticking power, for a citrus scent. And I also agree that coffee grounds help get stinky smells out, but I'm not sure how appealing citrus + coffee would be?

Coffee grounds don't come through too strong. I think it would be an interesting combo! Vanilla smells great with coffee, mmm.
