Hi im new to this forum and new to making bath bombs so sorry if this has been asked.

My best friend has realy bad eczma i was wondering if anyone had any good bath bomb recipes. 1. That dont irritate and 2. Might help. I was thinking a goats milk base? Thanks in advance

People with severe eczema have to be particularly careful what they use on their skin and all react differently to different things. Any hint of bacterial growth can be disastrous for most of them. Most can’t tolerate FOs and some can’t tolerate EOs either.

I have a friend who, directed by her doctor, soaks in bleach.

I am sorry but personally I wouldn’t suggest anyone with eczema uses a bath bomb.

Latest research suggests diet might be a factor. I now know 2 people with eczema so bad they used high doses of steroids to keep it partially under control. They have gone on strict no sugar, no fructose, very low carb diets with miraculous results! Both are now medication free and their skin is fanatastic. Both can’t believe the difference!

Your friend might like to research that and talk to their skin specialist.

Penolopejane gave you excellent advice. Don't even begin to think you can make something to help eczema it is not worth the risk. I am one with severe life threatening eczema, Evening Primrose Oil sent me to emergence a while back, and I am one that is much better off with synthetic FO's instead of EO's.

The bleach system is being proven it is not good. I would never dream of soaking in bleach. Washing with mild soap or cetaphil will wash any bacteria down the drain

Thank you for the advice. I have used the bleach bath on my son actualy and it was the only thing that helped. Thankfully he grew out of it.

My friend isnt too bad in general. She does react badly to any perfume but is good with epson salts and lavender. I thought maybe there was a good mix out there of something like:
Bicarb
Cream of tartar (in place of citric)
Oats
Epson salts
Milk
Lavender
Coconut oil
(Some combo of the above)

She is keen for me to try as she loves bath bombs.

They are starting to prove that bleach baths are not good, it really was basically a fad. No way would I even consider a bleach bath with my skin. Salt yes...Hopefully your friend knows what she is allergic to. Oat baths have also sent me to emergency when I was young.

A good remedy for soothing eczema is to bathe in an oatmeal bath. Put a good handful of porridge oats in an old clean sock, place the sock under the bath tap whilst filling the tub with warm water such that the water passes through the oats and makes a milky oat bath. Squeeze the sock to get all the oaty milky goodness out of it and into the bath water. Light some candles, pick up a good book and enjoy a long soak :tub:

Also - friends say that goatmilk and oatmeal soap (made with 100% goatmilk and very finely ground oatmeal - no fragrance or EO) works wonders on their kids with eczema. They also say it eliminates the dry patches on the face.

Something about the fizzy isn't that great for eczema.

If you've got it perfect, it might work, but the fizzy oxygen reaction is more likely to add to the troubles.

Oils (most natural oils are acidic) are often better than bubbles.

you know ladies soaking in bath while you suffer with eczema it is bad advice, Shower and lukewarm water. I am suffering with atopic dermatitis the only bath I take is the one with oatmeal, while I get hives, that is nightmare.
Carolyn I wanted to ask if you have a way dealing with hives, after cutting some shrubs in garden I think I was bitten by some kind of insect, Two weeks of terrible rash; hives ....

Nope I have no magic Dahila, just predisone when I am to bad. To stop bug bite and hives from itching I use Sea Breeze Original, but like a ****but stop itching when the burn is gone. I usually dab it on or at least only put it on the itchy areas, since Sea Breeze is a bit strong. BTW, I have never used it as a face astringent, since I think it is to strong for daily use, but do use it when my scalp breaks out. Of course, only use it if not allergic to the EO's it is made with. I have also taken baking soda baths, salt baths or vinegar baths, but do not soak long. They help the itching sometimes. Oatmeal bath soaks, I am allergic to. I also use salt bars regularly for my eczema. My skin seems to love salt :D As for Sea Breeze I use the Original have not tried the Sensitive formula

Yes, Dahila is correct, soaking in a tub is not good for eczema

@cmzaha what do you think about soaking in a salt water bath maybe? i wonder if someone was to swim in a salt water pool or the ocean every day- if that would make a difference

DH's excema has gotten really really bad after years of being gone (remission? is that how autoimmune works?) after months of treatments and now injected steroids- its gotten better but its still bad. havent convinced him to make the dietary changes yet

I have eczema yet can handle certain fragrences and oils as well. I like to use Dead Sea Salts in my bath/ bathbombs. They really seem to help! Rose clay in my bathbombs has helped too. My friend has psoriasis and the dead sea salts help her as well!

I am the same as your hubby. Mine was quite clear for 15 + yrs other than some severe attacks that sent me to emergency. My hands were totally clear all that time. Suddenly a few months ago I saw one finger break out, then 2 then 7 :(. I do contribute my staying clear so long was the fact I spent so much time at the ocean in the sea air. Growning up I would go to the beach and get in the water because it helped me so much, which is why I use salt bars now. Sea salt in the bath could help, I do not have a bathtub which is why I cannot take a bath. As for Dead Sea Salts just make sure there are no allergies to any of the constituents in the DSS. For some bathing and swimming everyday in salt water will dry out their skin to much, on the other hand I do much better when my skin is on the dry side.

Sadly the only magic bullet for eczema still is predisone, although some of the ointments available are really good, but pharmaceuticals like to keep the prices ridiculously high and insurances such as Hmo's will not pay for them. I can only imaging the cost of the new non-steroid ointment that is being advertised. Betting it is close to 1k for a small tube, at least here in the US

Good luck to your DH it is not fun

Thank you so much, I had suspected you to have some magic, I took bath with BS and Oatmeal which is a no for you. Carolyn have ever tried to use potato starch instead of Oatmeal, I swear by it, It can go dry on skin and will calm irritation. I used it as baby powder, at that time there was not GMO yet. For bathtub i would mix few tbsp with very hot water so it becomes thick and add to full bathtub. My mother did bath me in this for years , my dermatitis is nothing new for me, as long as I remember I am always itchy, Even when I am not , I need to control the habit of scratching myself :) eh even tomato plants (while pruning) will make my arms itchy

I’m not sure where you live but you should see if you can get some from Mexico. Insulin is about 25% of the price of here in the states.

When we were still boating we used to visit Mexico a lot, and yep I purchased a few of my meds there, but was careful not to over buy since I wanted no issues at the border. When you have a truck full of very expensive fishing equipment they tend to just flag you through when returning to the States.

Tomato plants make me itch too as do many of the fuzzy leaf plants. Nope never tried potato starch but I may try it as a powder. I usually use cornstarch. I am the same way I just always itch somewhere, had this since I was 2 yrs old. Now my Granddaughter is having a problem with her hands, poor sweetie she would complain of trying to hold a pencil and her teacher got mad at her. People do not understand how much cracked open itchy fingers hurt. I am going to mention the tell my daughter about your potato starch method, thankyou for the info.
