For my first batch of bath bombs, I sprayed them with a little water as per the recipe but they started fizzing immediately and I ended up with a big splodgy mess. So I did some research to see how to remedy this and discovered that different people were using different methods, some were using witch hazel instead of water, some used oils and some used nothing at all just the added fragrance to bind. So I decided to try this approach first, using just the essential oils and nothing else and they appear to be working, despite seeming a little dry, once packed and set they look and feel ok. However, I keep seeing recipes etc where they spritz with witch hazel or rose water etc and I just wonder if this is something I am missing. I realise the obvious thing to do is to try it out and see but I was wondering what peoples opinions were. What are the drawbacks of not spritzing the bombs, does it in someway make them inferior?

Ive tried many methods and found that for me, living in a very dry environment, a very small amount of witch hazel plus my butters and essential oils together make for a great bath bomb. But if I lived somewhere humid, I would probably just use the oils to bind. I think the hardest part of making bath bombs is that they are so susceptible to changes in humidity. I made them once when it actually rained (a rare occurrence where I am) and without thinking I did not adjust my recipe, and it was a mess...it took me literally hours trying to fix the proportions so that they would bind correctly.

I agree, I think where you live and the type of climate has everything to do with what recipe will work best for you, and I've noticed that bath bombs can be a bit temeramental. :wtf: LOL!! If your bombs hold together, get nice and hard and fizz when dropped in the tub, I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on anything.
