A recipe, but I found one. I actually have a question, I have some lard, the new recipe with hydrogenated lard. It smells off even though it’s been in the cool house and all that good stuff is it going to effect the soap or should I buy some new?

25% coconut oil
30% palm oil, lard or tallow
37% olive or rice bran oil
8% Castor oil
Isg, thank you very much. I will give that one a try. I found the answer to my question. That being, “No” you should not use an oil that smells rancid because it could keep your soap from fully saponifying.

I'm not sure that's correct. Rancid oils actually saponify more quickly than fresh ones due to the free fatty acids.

The reason not to use rancid oils is that your soap is likely to go rancid.
