I just received my order from BB.
I didn't realize that they pack their butters & solid oils in these plastic bags.

IMO these bags are a pain. Is there an easy way to do this? I just want to chop a section off. I do not want to melt this whole bag.

I was just starting to feel good again about BB.

Don't they have a spout for pouring out just what you need?

I guess for Palm oil especially it makes sense.

Yes, there is a spout but when it's a solid butter there is no pouring without melting first. I just heated the bag in a double boiler & then cut the top off & squeezed the avocado butter into a plastic bucket; so I could just take a lb out.

I melt my solid oils into quart jars when I get them. Makes it much easier.

Crafter's Choice also ships in bags for almost everything I get from them, except coconut oil. I get their palm already mixed but I think their unmixed is in a bucket. I keep a knife and scooping tool with my oils so I can take out what I need but it is a pain. I have gotten violent with my cocoa butter, which is extremely hard and has even bent my good kitchen knives. I have to stab it viciously with a pain scraper to get chunks off. If I were a better person, I would take an afternoon to melt them and separate into smaller containers, but I'm not a good person that way.

I have never ordered any of my base oils from BB before as they are too far away (I am in central FL). I had an acquaintance that wanted me to teach her how to make soap. She ordered her oils from BB, and it came in those bags. What a pain. I gave her some empty lard buckets I had on hand to transfer the oils into. I cannot imagine people actually using those bags....the oil would have to be melted every single time. Talk about a good way to make your oils go bad....

I think I remember them saying something about packaging them in those bags to save on shipping costs....couldn't prove it to me...their shipping is high whatever they package their stuff in IMHO.

I don't mind the bags, but then I don't make large batches of soap. I think they're easy to pop in the microwave and melt. Personally, a bucket would be fine, I don't care for the bottles that SC ships their smaller quantities of oils in. They're difficult to microwave, but impossible to scoop out of.
