Hi everyone!
I was inspired by a recipe I saw online for a baby soap & I wanted to make my own but with fewer ingredients. I've never made a baby soap before so if you have, could you please tell me how this recipe looks? Thanks!

10% sweet almond oil
10% babassu oil
60% olive oil
20% shea butter
38% water/buttermilk (50/50)
3% sodium lactate
.6 ppo EO

Soapcalc gives it the following numbers:
Hardness 28, cleansing 7, conditioning 70, bubbly 7, creamy 21, iodine 74, INS 119, linoleic 10 and linolenic 1.

I would also consider leaving out the Almond and Shea Butter, unless you're positive the baby doesn't have a nut allergy (seems like so many kids have nut allergies these days!). Maybe try Cocoa Butter instead of Shea.
You could do something like:
Olive 55%
Babassu 24%
Cocoa 21%
It will keep your cleansing number down (so it will be milder), but you'll still get the creaminess and conditoning especially with the buttermilk.
SoapCalc numbers:
Hardness 43
Cleansing 17
Conditioning 56
Bubbly: 17
Creamy: 26
Iodine: 58
INS: 146

I like the recipe changes that Shawnee made, but honestly, I'd leave out the eo as well and go for unscented.

For a baby, I would go very mild and unscented with a minimal ingredient list. So perhaps 80% OO and 20% either coconut or PKO or babassu with a 8-10% SF.

My eldest daughter was allergic to cocoa butter, lanolin, oats, and most tree nuts when she was a baby/toddler.

I wouldn't use any EOs for a baby. Not even lavender. The baby isn't going to care either way and why risk triggering a sensitivity?

I of course have to also add, most pediatricians now recommend using only water to cleanse babies under 6 months old.

When the hospital told us that, after my 5th child was born, I was quite surprised, because we'd used soap on the all the other children from the day they were born. My older kids all have pretty sensitive skin. But I have noticed that with my 5th child, who just turned 1, we have had less skin rashes so far with her than any of our other children. Up until she was 6 months old, I only used water on her & now when she actually needs something more than water, I use my castile soap on her. I have no idea if it's because of that, or because we've switched all of our laundry washing to handmade soap, or just because maybe her skin isn't as sensitive. I just figured I'd mention our experience with water washing.
