These are my latest soaps. Trying out a new recipe on these. Avocado oil, coconut, olive, castor, and lard. It's the first time I've used lard and I loved how rich the batter was! (Can't wait to try them when cured!). It almost felt like it was going to trace fast, because it was so rich, but it didn't! I waited a while before moulding just to see if it was fast moving or not but it took longer than I thought it would. The first one is avocado and cream, unscented and uncoloured. I wanted something nourishing, without scent for more sensitive skin types. It has avocado purée and heavy cream added at trace. I didn't insulate or cool it. Just left at room temp but I got a full gel on that one! The second one I wanted to try a Taiwan swirl. It's the same recipe, without the cream and avocado. Unfortunately I used an unknown- to -me FO (NG dupe of Lush's Karma) and it moved quickly (I know, rookie mistake! ). I did a chopstick swirl with a Taiwan-ish swirl on top. I unmoulded and cut too soon of course. I have no willpower! Thanks for looking!

I love the creamy avocado. Lard will actually help slow trace. You really do not have to wait until trace to add in the puree. I like to add into my oils with everything else and mix it in well, so I know the puree is incorporated in well.

Ooooh, the avocado and cream looks scrumptious and what a great job you've done on the Taiwan swirling! And I agree with kikajess, that blazing orange colour is fantastic!

Thanks everyone! I did a little bit of 'homework' for the swirl and will try again with a slow moving FO. I'm running out of supplies and only have a few colorants left, which guided the colour choice. I will have to make it again with new supplies! (You know how you get onto a little kick of doing a swirl or other technique) The orange was red oxide (powder) mixed with a bit of oil. Also used ultramarine violet and blue ultramarine.

I actually had a question regarding oxides. I know you're supposed to mix with oil but are you supposed to mix with oil from your measured oils from that batch or from another oil? If its from you're batch, won't it affect the recipe if you don't use as much colour as expected? If it's from a bit of other oil then won't it increase the superfat? Any wisdom you can share is appreciated!

Beautiful soaps and I love the colors, However; I am very partial to the classy looks of the avocado bar. I love avocado! :)

I recently made a soap using avocado oil and I love it. I may have to try this way too, that soap looks so creamy...ok I will be buying lard and avocados this weekend. See talked myself in to it....lol
