Upon further inspection of my huge bag of calendula that I just bought from Canwax, I noticed these small dried, scaly, worm-like things.

Are these actually worms, or am I mistaking them for something not as disgusting?

Here's a pic of how they look:

They don't appear to have a head or legs. Just curly, scaly little things that LOOK like worms. I see in the link to the pic it says "calendula_SEEDS" - please tell me that's all they are!

I have a whole 5 lb batch of soap made with calendula in it and I would be really upset if there are WORMS in it.

Ahhh!

Okay, I just did a search for "calendula seeds" (should have done that first!) and that appears to be what they are. Eww though - they look just like worms!

The calendula I bought has these and the whole flower heads in it. I guess I will have to pick all of the nice calendula flowers out of it. Does most calendula come with all the "garbage" stuff mixed in?

Lol Ashley! You had me going there! Whew

My dried calendula has bits in it that aren't pretty petals and I just pick through a handful each time I want to use it.

Tanya :)

ROFL, when I looked at the picture, I thought to myself: hmmm these are very even looking worms, actually look like shortbread biscuits I buy

Ashley    I'm so glad that you found out they're not worms - how awful would that be..

Yeah no kidding! And the soap is really nice, so I was really worried the whole batch was ruined!

LOL. I'll have to "sift" through my calendula a little better next time and pick these out. I think other people who might see them in my soap would think they were worms too, so, better not go there! :p

Ick! That happened to me with a Twix bar before. I had eaten a few bites of it when I noticed all these teeny red ants running all over my table. Look down at the rest of the chocolate bar - and it was INFESTED with red ants. And I had already eaten some of it..... *shudder*

I'm glad they aren't worms. But as soon as you described them, I knew they had to be seeds. You could always try planting them. Sort of like making lemonade when life gives you lemons. LOL Do you have a space to plant? They grow really easily, and then you could harvest your own flower petals that are seed and worm free!

Thanks nettles! Maybe I will try to grow my own calendula this summer. :)

I am not very "garden savvy" so I had no idea those wormy things were seeds! I'm glad that's what they are!
