Hi All,
I tried a recipe this morning for bath cookies, which turned out to be an epic fail. I think they look so cute online, but I've read some people complain because they don't dissolve completely in the tub.
To remedy this, I decided to add some citric acid (1/2 cup) into the dry mix to kind of help the cookie fizz away.
This is the recipe i found:

2 cups fine sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cornstarch
2 TBS Almond Oil (I used Safflower)
2 eggs
fragrance oil
color

roll into balls and bake in a 350 deg. oven for 10 min.

I think i made the cookies too large and flattened them too much because they all ran into each other. I tried cutting them with a round cookie cutter, but they were too crumbly.
Does anyone make these? Do you think the Citric Acid ruined the recipe? I THINK what i should have done was make them smaller, and not flattened them so much, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I'm wondering if they ran into each other because they expanded? Eggs contain quite a bit of water and this could have set off the soda-acid reaction and the cookies expanded as they cooked. If this is the case then you could try skip the eggs or find an egg substitute. I've never made a bath cookie so I'm probably not much help here. I only know that anything containing water will set of the soda and acid that's why only minimal is used for bath bombs and why lush bubble bars need to be crumbled and don't fizz. Because they use liquid surfactants for a big chunk of the recipe so can't use citric acid also. I learned this with ever-expanding bubble bars lol :)

It has been my experience they are difficult to crumble & do not disolve. There are a few threads here and everyone agreed they just don't work. They can be cute, but are not usable.

The eggs will smell bad after a while. I don't think that's a good recipe. I made these a looooong time ago and they were terrible.

I thank you all for your answers. What everybody says makes sense.
Tabitha, I think your statement pretty much summed it up...think I'll move on

Yeah...do some searching. Are you on the "other" forum?

I think they're a bit of a joke. Don't waste your time.

The searching I did came up with basically the same recipe, over and over again.
No, I'm not on the other forum, I've decided I can't because I'm obsessive enough with just this one.

BTW, Amanda, I tried out a small batch of your bubble bar recipe. I subbed half the cornstarch with cream of tartar (idk, some people seem to think you really need it, and i couldn't decide what to do?) and added just a bit of glycerin. I tried one last night and the bubbles were amazing.
I purposely got out of the tub without rinsing just to see what I felt like, and it was fine! Not dry or sticky at all. I think I'll focus on the bubble bars instead, loved them, thanks :)
