I have three dacshunds and they can get quite smelly. I'd love to make some kind of shampoo bar that is cleansing but not overly dry and that has a nice clean or even antiseptic like smell.
I'd like to use neem even though it STINKS, hope a nice scent will cover it.

I'm sorry, I know there are others that do it and lots of people disagree with me, but I do NOT recommend making soap for your pets. Dogs' skin is far more sensitive than humans' and different pH, and bar soap is just too alkaline. IF you decide that you want to try it, I would ask you to please consult your veterinarian first. Many essential oils can also be very very dangerous for pets so make very sure you are well educated in their contraindications as well.

Ditto.

Dogs shouldn't stink on the right diet.
When mine have done extra yucky things or when they're shedding really badly, I wash them with very neutral unscented human shampoo. A dog groomer gave me the advise to rinse, rinse, rinse and then when you think you're done, rinse some more
I don't know what it's like in the usa, but over here ingredients in pet shampoo don't have to be listed and no one does.

They don't naturally stink, they just pick up a lot of odors from being so close to the ground. The smell like sweaty dirt.

I'm not sure if they require ingredients list on pet shampoo but the pet industry in general has pretty lax rules about things like that. I currently use 2 in 1 human baby shampoo, its tear free and helps keep them from drying out.

I've read a lot of things about how natural soap can be harmful to dogs, but I gave it a go anyway (after learning that almost nothing in the pet industry is regulated). I made a bar that was superfatted 10% and was scented only 1/2 of the normal amount with tea tree EO and Neem EO. My dog doesn't itch anymore (boston terrier), it seems to keep her fleas in check, and it doesn't seem to be having any negative effect on her skin. She's been using it for about a year now. With that said, every dog is different, so some dogs might still be sensitive to natural soap.

I have a shampoo bar that I bought online, was terrible for my dry damaged hair but I tried it on my dogs yesterday and it was really nice. It rinsed out fast and their skin is super soft now.
My next batch will probably be shampoo bars if I can find a recipe I like.

I have 2 Pomeranians, so lots & lots of hair! proper brushing lifts the hair from the skin to encourage circulation, oil gland secretions and less matting...we have cows next door and our little one can't stop herself from rolling in the "cow flops" and then running to us for hugs & kissies...our vet said infrequent baths using unscented baby shampoo was the best...and rinse like crazy...we now shave her in the summer, which makes it a bit easier on all of us.

Just be thankful she likes cow flops. I used to have a huge french mastiff mix with a taste for human poo and the urge to wipe his mouth on my sleeve afterwards :problem:

Stinky dog remedy - rinse with about a half cup vinegar to gallons of water. Very diluted. We put ours (dogs) outside in a tub and just keep pouring it over them until sopping wet. No need for soap or rinsing. We have Great Pyrenees and they need the bath to help shed hair.
