I tried my hand making whipped soap for the first time 2 days ago. I used Nizzy's recipe. The process was uneventful but my question is this...The soap is un-moulded and cut but still feels sticky, is that the right feel for the age of the bars at this time? Also can someone tell me how I'm suppose to adjust the liquid amount specifically for whipped soap, I read some where the water to oil ratio should be 30% but that doesn't seem right. I really want to play around with this but the water question has me hung up. Advise please and thank you

If it's too soft to handle, you may have unmolded a bit early.

For my (softer) recipes, I have waited longer to unmold - and no stickiness.

Nizzy seems to use that 30% -ish ratio on those recipes, which means it probably works like that.

Personally, I whip a little differently (after trace) and up the amount of water to 3-3.5x lye or even a little more (which is a lot more than 30% - for extra fluffiness).

In conclusion, it may work with a little more water or a little less water, do experiment and find which works better for you :)

So...

Okay so let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly. I normally use SoapCalc for my calculator. So when I plug in my recipe I need to change the water to oil percentage from their standard 38% to 30% for whipped soap. Normally I change it to 33% with good results. I just want a starting point to play with and as I get more confident in the process and familiar with the end result I can make changes from there. Right?

I've made many uneventful whipped soaps. I don't adjust my liquid ratio at all.

Say I ran a one pound recipe through the lye calc. I would plug in 8 oz crisco, 4 oz coconut oil, 3 oz crisco, 1 oz castor oil. I use however much liquid the lye calc said. I make a lot of whipped goats milk soap and the goats milk/lye mixture is cooled in the freezer to the point of being almost frozen. Sometimes I add one ounce of honey while whipping.

I leave mine in the molds for 3 or 4 days. Sometimes it really sticks to the wire when I cut it but it always cures up nice.

Hope that helps :)

Actually, the conclusion of this discussion is that you have more choices.

Different people use different ratios (30%, 38%, 45%) and they are all happy with the results.

What's missing from this discussion is a comparison between these 3 different results.

So it sounds like I'm just over thinking (not uncommon) Looks like it's time to experiment again.
Thank you
