Sigh.....I'm sitting here at the computer unable to go to sleep. We had two huge earthquakes today.
For those of you that dont know, I live in Christchurch NZ and we have been having regular quakes since our 7.4 in September of last year. This Feb we had a 6.3 which destroyed our city, and killed hundreds.

So I've spent the day cleaning up glass and picking up shelves, and IM OVER IT!

I've coped pretty well so far, I'm fairly level headed and rational, but today seems like it was the final straw. I just burst into tears.
Its so tiring, we have quakes every day, and every time we have one we have to brace ourselves for 'the big one' - today was big.

Its hard to describe to people what its like. We have the quakes, survive those, but now we live in a city that is almost 3rd world. I am lucky, but many are not, they have no water and no power.
Our city is gone, no public transport, no night life, few restaurants. The traffic is horrendous and we live in fear everyday that another big one will hit, so like many, I tend to stay at home when I can.
This is not 'living life to the full'.

My partner and I own a small renovations company, so we feel it is our duty to help rebuild the city - but gowd I soooooo want to move!

I'm tempted (and it might be the wine talking) to throw a dart at a map of the world and move to wherever it lands - ohhhh that would be bliss!!

Sorry for the long post - just processing

Hey....im feeling for all u Kiwis at the moment , I cant imaging the terror of the tremors and the devastation they wreck.

hang in there life has to get better .

Thanks Traceyann, yeah it will get better :)

9 months of tremors is a long time though, and just when you think your in the all clear - another one hits.

I'm thankful that my friends and family are safe, and that I only lost one bottle of rice bran oil lol

I can't imagine what you're going through! I hope that you soon feel a lot brighter.

I was gutted when I returned home earlier this year. My favourite city looked trashed ... and that was before the next big one ... and today ... two more.

I spent the first years of my life 2 1/2 hours south of Christchurch and my Dad still lives there. I have many relatives and friends living in Christchurch and most are doing ok physically, but emotionally ... well that's a totally different thing.

I read somewhere that aftershocks can continue to be felt for 5+ years following a major quake. I can't remember where I read that, but it was when reading stuff about Christchurch. I really feel for you and all the people living in Christchurch.

My brother-in-law was due to fly back to Christchurch today after having spent the weekend in Brissie with his first grandchild ... but he's still here. His business just had the flag changed on it a week back, so they've been able to get inside and do some work, but no customers due to the street front still not being safe. Wonder if it's had more damage done to it?

Know we are thinking of you and I'm asking the Goddess to surround Christchurch with her love and light!

thanks DragonKaz :D

Its sad eh? Such a beautiful city in ruins.

The media talks about the city centre a lot but I really feel for those in the suburbs that are really badly hit. It could hit the negatives tonight and there are a lot of people without any heating.

5 years! Crickey! The scientists are actually saying we will have another 6 - 7 within the next few months. And insurance wont pay any money for rebuilds until we go 30 days (I think) without an after shock.

We have family visitng Brisbane at the mo who cant get back either due to the volcanic ash - geeeezz what is happening to the world?

Anyway - yes please send your love and light, we are a resilient bunch, but even we are finding this a little bit too tough :)

OMG! How dreadful! We get earthquakes here too, but nothing like yours where things fall off the shelves and break. I'm sending hugs, love and light your way!

Thank soapbuddy :)

Things fall over alright. This one was so violent I couldnt stand. Luckily I was at home. We have 2 large pot plants at the front door. They are very heavy, I cant lift them I would say baout 15kgs (?) and they were tipped over and thrown about 1/2 a meter. A book shelf in the office was also thrown across the room (they dont just fall they fly).

The worst part is that part of our city is built on land that should have never been built on. Everytime we have a shake the earth opens up and spews liquification every where (water, silt and sand), cars are swolllowed up on the roads its so deep.
And of course the houses that sit on this land sink, warp, crack and split. The government is in the process of declaring no build zones, which means some have lost everything.

I am familiar with liquifaction as my house sits on desert sand. My stucco outside cracked on both sides when we had an earthquake around Easter last year. There is a large crack in the cement foundation in the garage.
Is your house ok?

At least you only lost one bottle of RB oil :) , you gotta laugh or you'll cry.
