Very dear friends,
first of all let me wish all of you that 2014 will bring/mantain health, love, fun and why not also a winning lottery ticket :)

In a moment I thought I knew a lot about soaping (am over that now lol) I followed some exotic recipes reccomendation from a book and now HAVE to use some of the more exotic expensive oils I bought (luckily not in huge quantities). Talking about Hemp, Jojoba and stuff like that (while I have pretty much settled on a good and proven OO, PO, CO, Castor and Lard recipe as my basic formula.

I'd like to try the following. Do you spot anything that could be improved ? I'm looking for a mild, gentle soap for dry skins and/or face.

Here's the "recipe". Thanks in advance.

Superfat is 8% and I'll add lemongrass EO.

Here are the % of oils with Hemp and Shea taking place of my usual 59% OO:

Olive Oil 50
Lard 12
Palm Kernel Oil 16
Coconut Oil 5
Castor Oil 8
Hemp Oil 5
Shea Butter 4

Soapcalc guesses these properties out of this:

Soap Bar Quality Suggested Range Your Recipe
Hardness 29 - 54 32
Cleansing 12 - 22 14
Conditioning 44 - 69 65
Bubbly 14 - 46 21
Creamy 16 - 48 25
Iodine 41 - 70 70
INS 136 - 165 133

Based on what people said about lard when I mentioned it (but bear in mind that I have yet to try it myself) you might try upping the lard and lowering the OO a little bit, if not making them equal amounts.

That being said, it's already jolly conditioning, isn't it?

why not scratch the coconut (since it's only 5% anyway) and up your palm kernel? both have the same qualities as far as i know. besides, if you also want to use it for face, coconut oil can clog pores (shea butter too so i read).

or if you want a really mild soap, don't up the palm kernel, and add the 5% to either OO or lard.

I like your recipe. I too use a combination of PKO and Coconut. I think PKO is a bit gentler. I love the combination of the two but generally use equal amounts. Try your recipe out and see how you like it.
