amount of essential oil?

newbie question here, is there any general amount of EO to use per lb. I understand that that is a general question as we all have different "sniffers". I want to make some soap and wanted to order some EO's and didn't know how far an ounce would go.

I do from .5 oz to .75 oz per pound of oils depending on the essential oil.

It all matters what eo it is and what you're putting it in. Anything that is a stay on product, usually gets less than a wash off product. Really it has less to do with how strong the smell is and more to do with the constituents of the eo's you are using. There are some eo's that aren't very strong in smell, but using too much of them can cause serious skin irritation.

This forum suggests not going over 3% with eo's.
