I'm getting a little crazy now that my second batch seems to be setting very nicely. :D

I'm thinking about throwing an EO into the mix in my next batch.

The basic recipe I'm using now doesn't call for EO, so I'm wondering if I could use less of one oil in order to put some EO in?

This is the recipe:

2.25oz lye
6oz water
10oz olive oil
6oz coconut oil
1tblspn castor oil

Most of the recipes I've found called for palm or palm kernel oil with EO's involved and I ordered some of each but am waiting for them to come in, so I was thinking of trying something with what I already have.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There's no need to deduct oil from a recipe to add EOs or FOs since they do not saponify. You only need to be aware of the usage rate for your particular FO or EO. Usage rates are usually percentages of weight of base oils.

Also, make sure you use weight measurements, not fluid/volume measurement (like Tbs, Cup, etc)

Awesome! I thought you had to alter the recipe to make up for the oils.

And i know about the measurements. What i find funny is that the book that recipe comes from tells you the same things then goes and puts tablespoons as a measurement! Haha

Yeah, all soapmaking books aren't created equal ;) there was one very popular when I first got into soap that is riddled with inaccuracies, and has since issued "revisions for safety" by the publisher.
Just another reason to use a lye calculator no matter where. The recipe comes from.

P.S. I would round that Castor Oil up to 1 oz (instead of 1 Tbs) and subtract an oz from the Coconut Oil ;)
